Crazy Day

bloomonion.jpg

Judy and I left early this morning to visit the Social Security Administration. She has been on SUNCAP and I want  to get on it. That’s food stamps for people on SSI. Easier said than done. I thought it would be easier than the endless phone loops that always dump me out at the wrong person…but I was wrong.

The only parking is in a garage and my van won’t fit in. It looks like there is sometimes outside parking on a big deck, but today it was swarming with workers resurfacing it. I went around and around 3 times, but was not willing to park two blocks away on a slope. I would never have made it to the building and back to the van.

So we stopped at a thrift store to let off steam. Judy got a pair of shoes for 50 cents. Then I took her to several places she needed to do business. I went to Walmart to buy some 88 cent plants and two more flower boxes.

Then we went to Outback Steakhouse. Judy had never been to one. I figured it was time for my once a year Bloomin Onion.  They are so good and so rich, that once a year is plenty!

Next, on to Sam’s Club for doggy insulin. Judy wanted her beloved fresh mozarella balls with tomatoes and basil in olive oil, but they were all out. I got 2 bags of potting soil.

Now…are you ready for last night’s scare? I went to bed before 9PM and  woke up again around midnight. I went back to bed after 3AM.  It was cold out and some places had a frost. After letting Zeke out, I locked the door, as usual. I was conked when Zeke gave his alarm bark. I pulled back the blinds in my bedroom  but didn’t see anything. I drifted back  to  sleep.

Imagine my horror when I came out to the living room this morning and not only was my door unlocked, it was open! I called the apartment manager and she had the maintenance man put in new locks. Apparently some of the old keys, including master ones have walked off when the management changed hands. Scary!!!

Still Feeling Yucky

ovalbowls.jpg

Today my brain HURTS! I can think a bit better, but  it hurts to think. Even worse, my eyeballs hurt like heck. Usually eyeball pain goes along with a fever. I feel cold all over. From one ear to under my chin to the other ear, I’m swollen up. It hurts to swallow. My ears ache and my nose is snotty. I guess I have a run-of-the-mill cold.

Judy got a $30 gift certificate for a great thrift store today. She bought me presents! When she came back, she brought me over a set of oval mixing bowls, some plastic soup  bowls and some cool little snack plate/bowls. I also got 2 heart shaped cake pans. That was a not too subtle hint that Judy would  like me to make her some cake :-)

I fed her my latest batch of sourdough oatmeal honey bread. I use almost the same recipe I’ve always used for oatmeal honey bread, plus a cup of sourdough starter. YUMMY!

Obedience

“I too believe that God will always make a way where there is no way. I believe that if we will walk in obedience to the commandments of God, if we will follow the counsel of the priesthood, he will open a way even where there appears to be no way.”

–Gordon B. Hinckley, “If Ye Be Willing and Obedient”, Ensign, Jul 1995, 2

What brain?

dumpsters.jpg

Yesterday was one of those days lived in brain fog. I hardly knew who I was or what I was doing.  I remember very little about most of yesterday. I had a fever and hurt all over. My brain was fried mush.

I  never even changed from my jammies to street clothes until almost 7PM. That’s when I went to church for an hour or so. Afterwards I took a friend home and went on my first van trip ALONE! I drove to Walmart and back. I needed a few bottles of lemonade, some dog treats and dry cat food. I  splurged $1.28 on a new toilet brush.  I figured if I found one in the dumpster, I sure wouldn’t want to touch it! Much of what I use day to day came out of the dumpster.

A Trip to The Arctic Circle

arctic-circle.jpg
Possum called me today to invite me on an adventure up to the Arctic Circle in May. Several people might be going in their own rigs. Ooooohhhh…it’s fun to think about :-)

Possum knows how to do just about everything. Traveling to Alaska with a guy like him would be optimal. He can fix anything. I wish I were rich enough to afford the trip. Just in case something miraculous happens between now and then, I’ll keep the invite in mind!

I need to work on my van so it’s ready for camping. I found a twin mattress in the recycle area. It was still wrapped in the original plastic! I wonder what that story is? I stuck it in the van. Now I need to build a bed frame for it. I have my eye out for wood scraps and potential van furniture.

Ahhhhhh…..dreams……

Severe Weather and Tornadoes

Just great! Now we are under a watch for the rest of the night. The sky is wicked creepy looking.

Power Outage in Florida

power1.gif

“Power was slowly being restored after a massive power outage across Florida Tuesday afternoon. At about 3p.m., three million people were affected.”

Gee…power is on here. It’s hot and humid, so I am VERY grateful for my high power fans. It must be awful to be stuck in a city without A/C and traffic lights :-(

Freedom of Choice

 lushtulips.jpg

“One of God’s greatest gifts to man is freedom of choice. At an early period in the journey through life, man finds himself at a crossroad where he must choose one of two great highways—the right, leading to progress and happiness; and the wrong, leading to retardation and sorrow. There exists this eternal law that each human soul, through the choices he makes, will shape his own destiny. Our success or failure, peace or discontent, happiness or misery, depend on the choices we make each day.”

–N. Eldon Tanner, “Thou Mayest Choose for Thyself”, Ensign, July 1973, 7
