The Blob

I’m always learning new things about my body and the meds I take. This is my 8th year of Mestinon, you’d think I had it down pat by now. The last few days I have been taking only Timespan Mestinon instead of two 60 mg generic Mestinons every three or four hours. Brand name Mestinon just plain works better than the generic stuff, and my insurance will only pay for generic. The way to get around that is to take Timespan because there is no generic substitute.

I went to bed last night sometime between midnight and 1 AM. I was woken up by the neighbor, as usual, but went right back to sleep. I slept like a log until 9 AM this morning! That’s a record for me. Usually it gets too hard to breathe without Mestinon, but the Timespan lasts better.

HOWEVER…as good as I felt asleep, once I got up, the weakness hit big time. I went right from bed to shower without taking meds first. By the time I had washed my hair, I could barely lift my arms. Drying off and putting on clothes was quite the ordeal. It took me more than 5 minutes to get the clothes on my body and I wasn’t sure I was going to make it. I was fumbling and breathing in gasps.

I got out Zeke’s insulin to shoot him up before I could collapse into a chair. It was soooo hard! My legs kept going out underneath me and I could not keep my hands steady for the task. I was a bad Zeke mom and made him squeak in pain when I missed the sweet spot for shots :-(

I finally took my meds and now two hours later am starting to feel somewhat human again. I still remember when the myasthenia hit hard, but I wasn’t diagnosed yet. No wonder I had to be in a wheelchair and wear neck braces! Life without Mestinon sucks. Life with it is sooooooooo much better!
