The more things change, the more they stay the same

I was feeling good on Saturday.  Today I feel worse than I have in a while. It sucks! I wanted to be out of here today. My body is back to quivering and collapsing. My strength is zapped. The cramps from this #$%^&!! period are about like giving birth. The flow is a cascade. Can I scream now!?!

Instead of packing the van, I napped for 5 hours. I went to sleep with the cell phone by my ear and woke up with 3 messages. I never heard a thing. Oh…..ICK! I feel like crap!

I have to get out of here. Rent is due on the first, so they will come after me on the second if I don’t pay.

I really, really, really need to borrow someone’s good body. I’d be happy to pay someone to help me fill the van…..but who?

Help! Need a nice strong person or two!

Tuesday is moving day. I have no strength. Anybody around Lakeland want to make some money by helping me pack the van?

If you live anywhere near Lakeland, Florida, go here!

Central Glass Co Inc

302 N Ingraham Ave

Lakeland, FL 33801
(863) 686-6169

Last week I stopped by to see if I could get some plexiglass put in my shot-out van window. The man behind the counter was very polite and nice to me. He explained that my conversion van window was too curvy to use the acrylics he had in stock. Theirs are nice and thick. He sent me to Home Depot to buy 1/16th inch plexi. I looked there, but ended up buying a piece much cheaper…for $12 at Lowes.

All night I stressed out that what if they were too busy to fix my van today? I should not have worried. I went in around 9 AM and he put the window in quickly and efficiently. What a HUGE relief!!!

I love going to places where men work. It’s much different than where women usually work. Things were neat, tidy and no nonsense. I spent a long time looking at all the pieces of glass and acrylics and rubber window moldings and mirrors and things I have NO IDEA what they were for…but they looked interesting :-)

The man who put in my window is 21 years old. The old timer who used to work there taught him well and retired. Specialty jobs like fixing and making shoes and working with glass are totally cool. They aren’t thought of much until you need them. I love tools and big, uncluttered work spaces!

Central Glass can fix all sorts of things. He told me they can put new mirror glass in side view mirrors. On the table in the waiting area were all sorts of magazines about glass. I liked the article about architectural glass in buildings from Alaska to Florida to the desert Southwest, and the challenges each place pose.

Next time a hurricane rolls through or you need a new mirror panel for your house or any sort of replacement glass, check out Central Glass in Lakeland. What a great place! :-)

Thoughts….

“The Lord can judge men by their thoughts as well as by what they say and
do, for he knows even the intents of their hearts; but this is not true of
humans. We hear what people say, we see what they do, but being unable to
discern what they think or intend, we often judge wrongfully if we try to
fathom the meaning and motives behind their actions and place on them our
own interpretation… The Lord will do the judging in the final analysis.”

I should have worn diapers

I try to spare you the gross stuff from time to time….really! The last two days I’ve been having one of those menstrual periods that comes in a flood. Pads aren’t enough. Judy gave me some adult diapers and the absorbent pads that are about 2 ft x 3ft in size. I’ve been using both in order to be able to go anywhere.

Well…I eyed those things this morning, but opted to use a really humongous menstrual pad. Bad idea.  At least I wore a red dress :-) Two trips to the bathroom in an hour weren’t enough, I overflowed. Sigh….  So much for staying past sacrament meeting.

I almost wrote last night that the whole time (2 hours) that I was installing Reflectix in the van, I never coughed once! I was pretty psyched that I was getting better. When I got up this morning, I coughed out my brain and lungs. I did pretty good in church, though….except for that OTHER problem.

Kris from the Highlands ward came to visit our ward today. Totally cool! We have known each other online for years…back when I lived in Vermont and before I was ever a Mormon. We have been living near each other for the last couple of years and got to meet for the first time today. Once I meet someone in person, they become “real”. Nice to know you now that you are a person :-p

I will probably be back south in the winter. We will see what the world does between now and then. I’m going to miss the Lakeland ward!

Grrrrrrrrr……

Spent the afternoon getting van stuff

I bought a roll of reflectix to cover all the windows, a reflectix windshield cover, plexi-glass for the side window, purple mosquito netting for the side and back doors and got the van an oil change and new valve stem for the front tire. Whew!

I got a couple of those CD holders that are just plastic covers in a book. Thanks to them, I threw out a huge garbage bag of CD cases :-) Most of the CD’s and DVD’s are LDS General Conferences and the scriptures. Wow! Wish I had done that a long time ago. Sooooooo much easier and more compact!

Judy and I splurged. She had a coupon for two foot long subs for $7.99 so we had lunch in the ice cold Subway shop. Ahhhhhhhh…… I have hardly eaten this week. Every time I look at what’s left in my cupboards, my stomach does flip flops. Yuck! It sure seemed great to have someone else make me a sandwich :-) I haven’t had a sandwich since I was in the hospital.

Zeke really is too cute for a service dog.  EVERYBODY wants to ask questions about him, pet him and compliment him. I had forgotten how popular he is since I haven’t been shopping like this in months. I am extremely happy to be feeling better. This morning I was icky, but I sure perked up this afternoon :-)

Zeke  got ear mite medicine and Aleka got a  new harness. Neither is going to be happy with me when I put them on.

Judy gave me this polyfill thing that looks like a feather bed. It’s the exact same size as my twin air bed. I slept on it last night and it’s perfect!!!!! The van bed will be quite comfy. I’m looking forward to putting the air mattress up on the platform.  Getting up off the floor is making my arthritic old knees owie. Aleka is sleeping in my bed right now. Air mattress, feather bed and down comforter. She is plopped in the pouffy middle and looks like the queen cat that she is.

The bummer of the day is the condition of my teeth. A couple of nights ago I started having violent jaw spasms again. When I woke up, my top middle tooth to the right was chipped. Today all I did was eat a sub and my bottom middle tooth to the left now has a big chip :-(   Whenever these spasms start, my teeth fracture bad. Dang!

Lemmings

This is a post made by someone named “RJB”. I tried to figure out how to contact this person, but was unsuccessful. I hope they don’t mind the reprint. This struck me hard today….

Lemmings are little rodent creatures known for migrating in mass and plunging off of rocky cliffs into frigid ocean waters and waves crashing on the rocks below.
But consider this: Not ALL lemmings are obliged to commit mass suicide. If they did, the entire species would have died out long ago. So, the survival of the lemmings depends entirely upon a few not being “good lemmings” and doing as most lemmings do. The average lemming considers self preservation to be “un-lemminglike”, and yet every lemming owes his very existence to lemmings who came before them that went against the herd and refused to plunge over those cliffs, and to certain death.
America today has become a “lemming nation”, determined to commit mass national suicide. Great pressure is put against those few of us who are determined not to do so to follow the mad herd. Indeed, those of us who most strongly resist going alng with our mass national suicide are punished severely, and characterized as “enemies”, when in fact, we are the only hope of America’s continued survival.
Therein lies the essential madness in America today, that those who would “go along to get along”, even if that means going right over the cliff to certain death, are portrayed as good citizens while those of us who would dare go against herd, and opt for survival, are it’s enemies for doing so.
The essential truth is however something altogether different, and that is that every lemming owes his very existence to those lemming who opted to go against the mass madness and opt for continued survival. The truth is then that while most lemmings are their own worst enemies, the few that go against that insane majority are the species best friends.

I found a web page and video about real lemmings. Check it out.
