Want to drool…or sometimes gag?

Monday afternoon, Heather took me to Chinatown Center…a mall full of Asian businesses. It’s very unfortunate I was still getting over the 24 hour gut distress bug, because Heather wanted to take me out for Dim Sum or some other yummy Asian food. Alas, I was NOT hungry….

BUT, we did spend a very long time in the supermarket at Chinatown Center. Check it out!

Things that scream, bump and just plain GO in the night

The older I get, the more I understand that some symbols have true meaning….like the ghost above.

Back when we were all spirit children of God, we were in a council in heaven. Jesus and Lucifer presented their plans for how they would help God bring us through mortality and back to God after our lives here. Jesus had a plan that was of his father. We would have free will, otherwise known as agency. We were free to make choices in life. If we kept our minds and hearts on God and did the best we could, Jesus would die for our sins so that they could be forgiven. He would atone for our mistakes if we repented.

Lucifer wanted to take away our free will and make us all follow the right path so we would all make it back to God. He also wanted all the honor and glory for that.

The spirits in heaven made their choices. Most chose Jesus. About a third chose Lucifer. Lucifer and his followers were cast out of heaven, never to get a body. Those of us who made the choice to follow Jesus get a chance to receive bodies and do our best to lead good, decent lives glorifying God.

Lucifer and his followers can only influence us, they cannot MAKE us follow them. It’s up to us. The unembodied spirits can get into people through several means. A couple I remember are when we are under anesthesia or when drunk. At any time we, or people who call on the power and authority of God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit can tell those spirits to take a hike and get lost.

All my life I knew this intuitively and would call upon that power when needed. Last night I needed it! I was sitting in my living room in the dark when I saw an apparition zoom by and go out the window…sort of like an elongated paisley…much like the ghost depicted above. Then there were noises and voices and other scary things. This went on for about 3 hours. Finally I said a prayer that cast those spirits out. The second I said AMEN, it was all quiet. They were gone.

I thanked God profusely for his love and light and prayed that what had been filled by evil would now be filled with light and goodness and much love. It was one heck of a freaky experience!

I’m going to spend some time now looking up the season. There must be a reason why Halloween, All Saints Day and Día De Los Muertos are all clumped together…time to do some research…

Well….I WAS tired….

Of course my mother insisted on going out to the car herself to fetch something. I put a clean sheet on my mattress and decided I had better go out and get her. I just knew she had fallen. Yup…there she was on the sidewalk. Since my mother is almost as rotund as me and about as stiff, sore and  unable to bend, I knew it was going to be real fun getting her up again.

My mother’s mother used to fall when I was staying with her and she, too was like a wet noodle to pick up. Sigh…. Zeke and I went in for a chair and put it near the curb. I tried pulling, I tried cajoling. Finally I did a bear hug under the pits and around the boobs and used all my strength. It worked. Kind of a yawner for Zeke. He was hoping to help.

With myasthenia I am good for one task that requires strength, then I become a weak lump of jello. My arms were like lead and my legs felt like they were swinging freely and wildly at the knee after picking my mother up outside. Sigh…..

Mestinon to the rescue! After  sitting here an hour or so, I’m finally getting some of my strength back. When I do, it’s my turn to drop to the floor and sleep.  I put my fluffiest belongings as a base and some sheets on top. My floor is a concrete slab with carpet on top. Should be comfy ;-p

I haven’t heard any screams from my room yet. I guess mom made it down to the mattress on the floor :-)

Well…tomorrow IS Halloween, sounds like it’s going to be scary in the morning when two fat old broads try to attain a vertical  position. Be afraid….be very afraid….

My mother showed up just before dark

Geezum Crow!!!!!! My mother toddled over to my apartment door once I had given up expecting her. She got here 6 or 7 hours after she said she was leaving her place to drive 70 miles.

I dragged in several oxygen canisters. She’s OK and has to spend the night on my mattress on the floor. I fed her a plate of cheeseburger hamburger helper that I got at the food shelf.  Snicker….

I guess I get the carpet along with Zeke and Aleka.

Thank you for your prayers. They must have got her here. At least she’s not in a snow bank this time….

OK….I’m scared

My mother said she was coming to visit me around noon. It’s a 70 mile trip and she’s not here. It felt like a bad idea to come here too late in the day.

Remember last year? She was going to the school near my sister’s house and ended up on a dead end dirt road in a snow bank for at least a couple of days ;-o

Prayers for her safety appreciated….

I am soooooo tired!

Gosh, this waiting for the phone company is tough work. I have to stay dressed and I have to stay awake.

The airline must have done something bad to my CPAP. I got in bed, turned it on and nothing happened. I got up, put on the lights and fiddled with all the buttons and cords for quite a while. No such luck…so I slept without it for the second night in a row. Slept is an exaggeration. That’s why I’m so incredibly tired today.

Until the phone guy comes, I can’t rest and I can’t really rest until I get a new CPAP. But…of course I can’t call the doc or a medical company without a telephone. Once the phone line is in, I still need the phone.

Like I said….I’m soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo tired………….

Snow and a telephone and $$

The wind really whips up here on the hill. It makes fantastic snow drifts :-) Snow fell all day and most of the night. Wind shaped it into beautifully sculpted dunes. The little hill out my window has a ridge line that constantly changes. This area probably got around a foot of snow. It’s hard to tell since the snow doesn’t sit still.

This apartment complex has two regular maintenance men and at least one other guy who deals with recycling and other jobs. We are well taken care of! Zeke wanted to go out for a walk around 7 AM. The policy here is that the driveway gets plowed at 6:30. Yup…the guy was out there. The pathways had already been shoveled, the snow blower had been through and the walks were salted. I met my across-the-hall neighbor out there with a scraper and brush. He told me he charges a couple of bucks per snow storm to keep a person’s car cleaned off. I think I will sign up! I’m too weak for that much of the time and it’s a REQUIREMENT to keep cars clean and to move them after the plow gets the driveway done so the parking spaces can be plowed.

Today my job is to sit here and wait for Verizon to show up between 8 and 5. I’m getting my phone line installed. Unfortunately I have no phone or money to buy one until the first….so, it will be a couple of days until I get to use it.

Speaking of money, I need to make some tough budget choices this month. I REALLY need snow tires. Heck, my van needs all sorts of things. I need to get the choke fixed, maybe the thermostat, definitely the steering/suspension and the windshield washer doesn’t work. I realized how important being able to squirt on the windshield was yesterday. Salt spatter goes all over the window and makes it darn hard to see. Oh, then there’s the rock chip that ought to be plugged. Sigh…

When it comes to money,  I will ALWAYS talk about it. That doesn’t mean I am begging. I am merely discussing my reality. I get real tired of folks accusing me of begging. I am not. When you live on $704/month, money is a constant consideration. Every penny has to be deliberated before spending it. There’s not much margin of error. If you don’t want to hear me talking about the challenges of living on disability, you are in the wrong place ;-p

Fear is a deadly enemy of progress

“We live in a changing world. Technology has altered nearly every aspect of
our lives. We must cope with these advances-even these cataclysmic
changes-in a world of which our forebears never dreamed.  Remember the
promise of the Lord: ‘If ye are prepared ye shall not fear.’  Fear is a
deadly enemy of progress.”

Thomas S. Monson, Ensign, May 2003, 19
