Do not smoke, wear your seat belt, eat well, quit drinking too much alcohol, get regular cancer screenings, worship God and be nice to everybody :-)

Do not let fear mongers steal your life. Keep ALL things in your life in balance. Do you eat organic food and work out at the gym AND smoke and drive above the speed limit? Make rational choices!!!!!!

While all the flu info swallows up the news, pay attention to what else is happening. Do not be blinded by sensationalism. Be prudent about the world full of joys and sorrows. DO NOT let yourself fall into a pit of despair and hopelessness! Turn up the love, turn off the TV. Live life as if each day matters.

In a normal year…

sick

Gee…how come people aren’t scared daily? This is what happens every year without a pandemic….

The flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death. Every year in the United States, on average:

  • 5% to 20% of the population gets the flu;
  • more than 200,000 people are hospitalized from flu-related complications; and
  • about 36,000 people die from flu-related causes.

Brrrrr…..

frostgrass

My health and the weather have a lot in common…it goes from one extreme to the other! Two days ago the official high was 88 degrees. Last night we had a heavy frost that looks like snow. It was a balmy 27 degrees. Tonight’s forecast is for 20.

I’m truly not sure how I feel. When I woke up my lungs hurt REALLY bad. Now that I have taken my morning meds, it’s tolerable as long as I don’t move around much. Each night my fever breaks in my sleep thanks to night sweats, then the fever gets hotter and hotter all day. As part of my daily meds I take an 800 mg Motrin every six hours. That helps, but the headache, fever, stabbing eye pain and creepy skin get to me anyway.

I’m truly lucky to be on oxygen at this time. My upstairs neighbor has the same flu bug. I can hear him cough and he sounds way worse than me :-(

Dog tired

Today is one of those days!

preperationh

I was only asleep an hour or two!

ripvanwinkle

When I fell asleep it was 76 degrees this morning. When I woke up after noon, it’s cold and rainy…58 and dropping fast. The most astounding thing is the weekly forecasts also changed while I was asleep!!! We are expecting 20 degrees. Geezum crow! I will need to bring the oniony seedlings back in again. One more example of how the world can change in the blink of an eye. Seems to be happening a lot lately….

Two interesting ways to start the day!

lilac

Imagine my surprise!!!! I opened the back door to let Zeke out and several of the bushes up on my little hill have begun to unfurl their leaves! Real leaves! I haven’t seen real green leaves since October! Can you tell I’m excited?

Then I went into the bathroom to comb my hair. Good thing the internet is not a two way visual street! Oh, my gosh! I haven’t had a haircut in “forever”.  I washed my hair last night before bed. Then I had a night of intense night sweats. It all adds up to a cross between clown hair and an afro. What a fright :-P

Toss-up…tried to kill me or the flu

sod

I was miserable…aching all over,  burning up from fever, queasy…but I could not stop thinking about the holes in my front yard. Zeke likes digging holes to lie in.  If it were my land, I would not care. I’ve been meaning to skim some sod off the future  garden area to fill in the holes. As the sun went down, I did just that. I carved out two large rectangles. After digging up the sod and dragging it back to my apartment, I wasn’t so sure I was going to live. I did all that without supplemental oxygen. I’ve never felt such burning in my chest!

I gulped o2 and downed some lemonade. When the bulk of the pain had subsided and my breathing wasn’t so raggedy, I went out, dug holes for the sod and  fitted them in. Not the smartest move after the hottest day of the year when I was so sick….but I did it!!!!!!  :-)

After a nice, cool shower,  I’m still trying to recover.

My body is confused!

hightemp

It was 86 degrees here today. I spent the afternoon under my down quilt freezing. My feet and legs were like ice. My head was burning up. The rest of me was either hot or cold…nothing in between. What’s up with that?
