Won’t hear much from me for a while…

I took advantage of the chance to get out of the Cable One contract within 30 days and stopped getting TV, internet and phone. We are too low income and their service sucked. Seemed like half the time I was talking to someone on the phone, it quit working and the internet connection was about the same. I was constantly resetting the modem. They get a “D” grade from me :-( Even more distressing than the crappy quality is what that month cost me.

I have no clue what to do next. I’ve heard of a mi-fi device that’s pay-as-you go. Maybe I will try them? The library is closed on Fridays, so I am at McDonald’s. There’s only one plug here and I had to wait until someone moved so I could use it.

I’m still feeling extra yucky. Night sweats all night last night and abdominal pains I have never felt before. Still getting the run-around from the insurance company, pharmacy and all doctors, hospitals and oxygen providers. Still no Cellcept 2 weeks into it, no oxygen, no test results and both docs say the other one has to write the IVIg prescription. Still no port flushed. The doc’s office told me to get it flushed at the cancer center next time I go for meds. They seem to be under the impression I have cancer since I have a port. I tried to explain stuff to the nurse, but she was as dumb as a dusty rock. It gets discouraging!!!! Now I have to wait until Monday yet again.

Sorry I’m no fun lately….

  1. Hi Wendy. Sorry to hear about your continuing problems. Have you tryed booting your Pc and seeing if somebodys got an open port on their computer? In other words search for another wifi signal? If you goggle it you can also make a wifi exstender for your pc..Instructables might be the site that tells you how to do it.. You can find the cable they are talking about. A usb connection on each end….At the dollar store or maybe even a Dollar tree but I know dollar store sells them fairly cheap.. The mifi is like $80 a month??? Not cheap…… Darling? Don”t say somebody is dumb on your blog. Thats not very nice at all even if you are frustrated???//// HoboJoe

  2. Sure hope you get to feeling better and get things straightened out with the doctors. That is a big problem when moving even if its just from town to town in the same state. Can only imagine from one state to another. Hang in there. Are there other cable, phone, internet companies in your area? ATand T has a really great inexpensive plan if its available there.

  3. WENDY, HAVE YOU MET ANY OF YOUR NEIGHBORS? IF YOU HAVE ASK THEM IF THEY MIND YOU PICKING UP OFF THEIR INTERNET, MOST PEOPLE ARE REALLY GOOD ABOUT THAT. THEY CAN GIVE YOU THE KEY# AND YOUR ALL SET OF SEE IF YOUR COMPUTER WILL DO A RANDOM SEARCH FOR KEY NUMBER….HOPEFULLY YOU WILL FIND SOMEONE THAT DOESN’T MIND AND IT WON’T COST YOU ANYTHING/

    • I am very cautious about the whole neighbor thing. I have not been here long enough. I knew a guy who had a program that cracked passwords. It was fun to watch, but not something I want to do. I honestly did not miss the internet as much as I thought I would. I miss being able to look up answers to my questions instantaneously, though.

  4. I looked up a internet cable company called Qwest they say they have a bundle starting at 19.95. You can try Directv also. Also try Verizon. They may have a bundle package available in your area. Just some thoughts.

You can say anything you want on YOUR blog. It has nothing to with being nice. It is called being honest.

I too got rid of cable. I had Cox. I had the same rebooting problem as you. It gets quite irritating.

You can use McDonalds wifi from the parking lot. When I was visiting my aunt in Fla I swung by McD every afternoon to download my work email. She is 84 and was fascinated by the whole process, and especially with the iPad!

  6. For your TV, you can get Digital HD Rabbit Ears and get local channels for FREE for your TV. So the one time cost of the attenna will be recovered quickly vs paying for cable. Of course, you won’t get a huge channel selection, but it’s something. Buy one at Wal-mart and if it doesn’t work, take it back!

Second, why are you waiting for a plug at McDonalds? Does you laptop not hold a charge? Two solutions, buy another battery (cheaper then paying for internet at home) and use McDonalds or Library (even when they are closed – l have done it many times sitting in my car when on the road, watching netflix off the librarys wi-fi), and second, if your battery on the laptop doesn’t hold a charge, plug it into your RV inverter and use it from the parking lot.

I can’t tell you how many times l have surfed the internet from my car, sitting comfortably, in my own space, using free Wi-Fi access.

    • As far as I know, there aren’t any local channels. For myself, I could never watch TV again as long as I live…and be quite happy. Since Rhett is blind, he spends more time with it than I do. I leave the room when he is “watching” TV.

No, my laptop does not hold a charge. I have 2 Macs with that problem. I wish I had the extra bucks to make them better, but food and gas is more important. I had free internet in NY. I was spoiled :-P We really don’t have much “extra” money in our budget at all. Living on $500 each per month is quite challenging. I don’t know what I was thinking when I signed up for cable!!!!!! In NY I paid $10.51/month for the telephone and got wifi free. The TV cable was paid as part of everybody’s rent. Here, rent is more and disability payments are less.

  7. This will almost certainly end up in your spam. How that happens, I don’t know. Perhaps at some point in times past you thought I was a grinch?… But here goes… If you can get somebody to donate you a Virgin Mobile USB broadband stick, you can set up an account to buy USB internet access for $20 for 30 days and 500 MB. That is enough to check email, surf the web, and do Facebook. It is NOT NOT NOT NOT enough to watch Youtube or Netflix. DO NOT GET THE “MIFI” thingie…. That is like $50 or $60 per month. What you want is a Virgin mobile USB Broadband2Go that is NOT “MiFi”. “MiFi” is the one that allows up to 5 different computers to access it. You want a simple USB broadband stick that is prepaid on Virgin Mobile and the $20/month plan. http://www.virginmobileusa.com/mobile-broadband/ovation-mc760.html

Gonna miss your posts, sorry you are having such a bad time right now. I don’t understand why you couldn’t be supplied with saline flushes then flushing your port would not be a problem.Where has all the common sense gone ? All things have to be so complicated now days with too much red tape to cut through! ( sigh ): )

    • EVERYTHING is complicated right now. I need pre-approval from insurance for every medicine and procedure that docs want me to have. Neither of my doc offices are timely doing what they need to get and keep the process rolling. Poor people are very NOT a priority in any practice…and they make sure to let me know that :-(
